Bell County teacher saves choking student

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A quick-thinking teacher in Bell County is being hailed as a hero after saving a student who began choking during lunch.

According to school officials, the incident happened October 23 at Yellow Creek School Center. They say second-grade teacher Pam Greene acted immediately when she noticed a student choking on a piece of carrot.

Without hesitation, Greene performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging the obstruction and saving the child’s life.

Administrators praised Greene for her calm, fast response and training, saying it made all the difference. The Bell County School District called her a hero — adding that her actions highlight the compassion and dedication teachers bring to the classroom every day.
