Bear spotted again in Berea; wildlife officials notified
BEREA, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A bear alert is once again in effect in Madison County, after multiple sightings of a black bear in the Berea area over the past few days.
According to Berea Police, the bear—being dubbed by some as the “Berea Bear”—has been roaming near town, prompting renewed warnings for residents to stay alert and keep a safe distance.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife has been notified and is monitoring the situation.
As ABC36 previously reported, a bear was also seen in Berea around this time last year. Wildlife officials say bear sightings are becoming more common in parts of central Kentucky, especially during the summer as bears move in search of food.
Authorities are reminding the public: if you see a bear, do not approach it. Keep pets indoors and secure garbage cans or other possible food sources.
