Dedication ceremony held on Georgetown- Scott Co. campus
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) officially opened its new Georgetown-Scott County Campus, Advanced Manufacturing Center, with a dedication ceremony today, though students have been working and learning there since January.
The new facility is located at Lane’s Run Business Park, 200 Technology Court, Georgetown, Ky., and focuses on high-skill manufacturing job training and supports general education courses for Scott County and the Bluegrass Region.
In 2006, and in partnership with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK,) BCTC developed a unique “work and learn” training model called the Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program to increase the pipeline of skilled workers. Now, 17 companies have joined the Bluegrass Chapter of the Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (KYFAME) to create a structure that allows companies to innovate, adopt new technologies, and create talent.
“This project is 10 years in the making and worth the wait. BCTC is grateful for the persistent efforts of regional partners, starting with the Georgetown community and Toyota leadership. Students getting ready for good jobs and employers who need them will see substantial benefits from this effort,” said Dr. Augusta Julian, president of BCTC.
The new campus features a 78,000 square-foot building that is expected to serve 1,200 students, with 12 full-time and 20 part-time faculty. Programming includes industrial maintenance, electronics, PLCs, industrial electricity, robotics, mechanical drives, fluid power, machining and welding.
