BBQ competition, bike rally benefit firefighter diagnosed with brain cancer
MIDWAY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A BBQ competition and motorcycle rally later this month has a great name and even better cause.
The Smokin’ Iron BBQ competition and Bike Ralley set for June 26 in Midway will raise

Van and his new bridge Leslie/GoFundMe
money for 39-year-old Midway Fire Department Capt. Allen Vann who was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, on March 21, the day after he returned home from his week-long honeymoon in Cancun with his new bride, Leslie.
The couple were married March 13.
He was experiencing headaches and some memory issues while on their trip, so they visited the emergency room the morning after they returned and found out he had brain cancer.
According to a GoFundMe account set up on their behalf, Vann had surgery to remove a lime-sized tumor from his brain that week and returned home after a few days. He’s just finished six weeks of intense treatment with both radiation and chemotherapy.
He’ll continue chemotherapy every four weeks for the next six months to a year. His prognosis for a long life is good, but it’s still a long road, according to what doctors have told them.
The BBQ competition and cycle rally will be held at Walter Bradley Park in Midway to also raise money to help offset medical expenses. It’s organized by Vann’s fellow firefighters and friends.
