Bat tests positive for rabies in Boyle County

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Health officials in Boyle County are urging residents to take precautions after a bat tested positive for rabies in the Perryville–Mitchellsburg area.

In a statement on Facebook, the Boyle County Health Department reminded pet owners to ensure their cats and dogs are current on rabies vaccinations. Officials say anyone bitten or scratched by an animal that may be rabid should contact the health department immediately.

Rabies is a deadly virus that can be transmitted to humans and pets through the bite or scratch of an infected animal. Vaccination and prompt medical attention are key to preventing the disease.
