LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) -A barricaded subject wanted for a probation violation warrant in connection to a felony charge is now in police custody, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office reports.

According to Sheriff John Root, authorities first responded to the home on Star Hill Road at 6 p.m. Monday, after receiving information on the whereabouts of Sammy Bowling.

Bowling refused to exit the residence, barricading himself inside.

“Deputies were unable to determine whether the individual had weapons inside the residence and out of an abundance of caution for civilians and patrol deputies, Laurel County Sheriff John Root activated the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office (special response team)… (and) along with additional patrol deputies and supervisors negotiated with the suspect for over two hours,” Root wrote on social media.

Bowling was eventually taken into custody safely. He is charged with a probation violation on a prior drug charge, as well as two bench warrants for failing to appear in court regarding child support.
