Bardstown mayor helps tackle suspect

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (AP) — The newly elected mayor in a central Kentucky city is helping police officers in an unexpected way.

WDRB-TV (http://bit.ly/1ylmg8c) reports Bardstown mayor John Royalty, who took office on Jan. 1, helped officers tackle a suspect who took off on foot while being questioned. Royalty told the station he just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Royalty said he saw the suspect run around a tavern while police were trying to question him, and so he took off after him along with the officers and helped tackle him in an alley.

Police say they are glad to know Royalty, who has law enforcement training, has their back.

Royalty joked that the incident gives a new meaning to running some errands.
