Back-to-back robberies at Lexington hotels

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police have stepped up patrols around Lexington hotels following back-to-back robberies overnight.

The first robbery was at the Red Roof Inn on Wilhite Way at 11:30 p.m.

According to police, the suspect came in, his face covered with a bandanna with polka dots on it, and carrying what appeared to be a kitchen knife.

He demanded cash from the clerk then ran off.

The second robbery happened less than a half-hour later at the Double Tree Suites on Richmond Road.

In this robbery, police say the suspect was wearing a black mask that had a “teeth” design on it.

The man was also carrying a knife, but the clerk in this robbery described it as a butcher knife.

The suspect took off after getting money.

Police say there are a lot of similarities in the case, but because of some differences in the clothing and height given on the suspect in each case, they are not quite ready to say these robberies are related.

Police say they are reviewing surveillance video to try and get a better description of the suspect.
