Babysitter accused of abusing toddler
RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – A babysitter is in jail in Madison County, accused of criminal abuse.
Richmond police arrested Angela Powers on Monday for an incident that happened back in September.
They say they received a call about a report of an 18-month-old girl who was injured at a home on Edgewood Drive.
Police say Powers was babysitting the child at the time and said she fell down some stairs.
However, police say the girl’s injuries were not consistent with a fall.
According to Powers’ arrest citation, the toddler was taken to Kentucky Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed with a brain bleed and other external injuries.
When police questioned Powers, they say she admitted to shoving the toddler, causing her to strike her head on an old television set.
Police say Powers also admitted she made up the story and called 911 when the girl lost consciousness.
Powers is charged with criminal abuse of a child (12 or under) and assault second-degree.
