Baby boy surrendered in Safe Haven Baby Box in Montgomery County

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A healthy baby was surrendered Monday at the Montgomery County Fire Safe Haven Baby Box, according to a news release.

This new facility, located at Montgomery County Fire EMS at 521 E High Street, opened in early April.

Since 2017, 50 infants have been safely surrendered through the Safe Haven Baby Box program, which offers anonymous surrender options in seventeen states. Founded by Monica Kelsey in 2015, the program aims to end infant abandonment and includes a National Hotline (1-866-99BABY1) for support.

Montgomery County Fire Captain Zachary Adams expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting the baby boy was in good health and has been transported to a local hospital. The project was fully funded by the Montgomery County Kiwanis, according to Adams.
