Awards just fluff for Cats
UK is ready for the SEC tournament.
Today, it was time to hand out awards and honors for being the best. The league coaches picked the Cats virtually across the board.
Willie Cauley-Stein was named the defensive player of the year in the SEC.
Karl Towns grabbed the freshman of the year honor while Devin Booker took home the 6th man of the year award.
All four Wildcat freshmen (Booker, Towns, Tyler Ulis and Trey Lyles) made the all-freshman team…while WCS and Towns grabbed first-team All-SEC recognition. Aaron Harrison joined Booker on the All-SEC second team.
What does it all mean though for the Cats?
It’s not about those accolades. It’s not about getting your name on a piece of paper. It’s about being remembered for a long time.
31-0 is on paper right now for Kentucky, but again, that’s not the goal.
The goal is much greater, and much more difficult to reach.
By being selfless, awards or not, the Cats hope to reach perfection.
These awards are nods to accomplishments. Nods to achieving something great. Nods to being a cut above the rest.
But to the team, and especially to Cauley-Stein, it’s all just the clutter, as Cal likes to say…because this team…has just that one goal.
For WCS…it’s more like an obsession.
