Autopsy results from death of 17-year-old Henry Clay High School student
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A recently released report from the Kentucky Office of the State Medical Examiner has confirmed that the death of Emeka (Emmanuel) Mwakadi, a 17-year-old student at Henry Clay High School, was due to natural causes rather than any external trauma or altercation.
According to the medical examiner’s findings, Mwakadi’s death on May 11, 2024, was caused by a seizure that complicated a ruptured vascular malformation in his brain. The report specifically noted a “left frontal lobe venous malformation with microscopic rupture” as the primary condition leading to the seizure. The school called it a “medical crisis” that happened in class.
In the weeks leading up to his death, Mwakadi had reportedly intervened in a school altercation, breaking up a fight at Henry Clay High School. This incident led to some speculation about whether the altercation might have contributed to his passing. However, the medical examiner’s report clarified that the altercation did not play a role in Mwakadi’s death. The report emphasized that the cause of death was entirely due to the medical condition, stating, “This altercation is not a contributory factor in this death.”
Toxicology results further confirmed that there were no drugs, designer opioids, or alcohol in Mwakadi’s system at the time of his death.
Mwakadi’s sudden passing shocked the Henry Clay High School community, where he was well-regarded by his peers and teachers.
