UPDATE: Dashcam video of UK forward Derek Willis arrest released

BURLINGTON, Ky. (AP) -The Boone Co. Sheriff’s Office has released dashcam video of UK Basketball’s senior forward Derek Willis as he was arrested for public intoxication.

According to an arrest citation, Willis was lying outside the open driver’s side door of a car and had to be awakened.

The dashcam video shows Willis being awoken, taken to the car, and includes footage of Willis in the patrol car after being arrested.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department says Kentucky senior forward Derek Willis was found lying in the street and stated that he had “a lot” to drink when he was arrested for public intoxication.

The arrest citation obtained Monday by The Associated Press says that a deputy observed Willis lying outside the open driver’s side door of a car and had to awaken him Saturday morning in Union, Kentucky. The citation adds that the deputy noticed a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from Willis and the car and said he had extremely slurred speech.

Willis was arrested for a first and second offense and later released after paying a $50 bond. A Kentucky athletics spokeswoman said the school is aware of the situation and gathering information and won’t comment.
