Asst. Woodford HS coach charged with child sex abuse

VERSAILLES, Ky. (AP) – A central Kentucky grand jury has indicted an assistant coach on a charge of sexually abusing a girl younger than 12.

Multiple media outlets report 58-year-old Larry Watts is an assistant boys’ basketball coach at Woodford County High School and worked as a monitor or teacher’s aide the last two years in Fayette County.

The charges, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, stem from acts alleged to have occurred in 2001. Versailles Police Sgt. Joy Farmer did not know how Watts knew the victim, who is now an adult.

Woodford County Schools Superintendent Scott Hawkins said Watts has been employed at the high school for six years. He remained employed Friday.
Watts was indicted Wednesday by a Woodford County grand jury. He is scheduled to be arraigned July 1.
