Art projects to improve park bridge, shelter
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two Lexington Parks are going to get a new look thanks to the talents of some Fayette County students and a corporate grant.
The Urban County Arts Review Board (read the outlines UCARB Packet 36 News Request) has approved a project Lafayette High honors art students to paint a foot bridge over a creek in Valley Park.
The sketches are themed “Our Friendship with Water” and are of children playing with fish.
Commission members said the work on the unsightly bridge would be a welcome addition.
Students hope to do the work at the end of June and early July.
“I want that bridge to look good. I can contribute a little bit to make it look good. If it is a budgetary issue, I think the small additional funds could be easily raised,” said Commission member Kurt Gohde.
The Commission also approved plans to paint the shelter at Southland Park, which has been part of a major arts development and neighborhood revitalization effort.
The work is being funded by an American Water grant.
