Armed suspect shot after multi-county chase
POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A woman is facing multiple charges after a multi-county police chase ended with her being shot by law enforcement.
According to Kentucky State Police, 44-year-old Sommer Arvin has been charged with wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, and driving on a suspended driver’s license.
The incident began when Irvine Police attempted a traffic stop on State Road 82 in Estill County. Instead of stopping, Arvin allegedly drove off toward Powell County. The pursuit ended when Arvin lost control of her vehicle and hit a snowbank on Little Brush Creek Road.
State Police say Arvin allegedly pulled out a gun after crashing, prompting an officer to shoot her in the shoulder. Following the shooting, Arvin ran into nearby woods, but eventually surrendered after negotiations with police.
Arvin was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and later released. She is currently booked at the Three Forks Regional Jail.
