ARH hospitals’ computers restored after August cyberattack
BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) – Computer and communication systems at all Appalachian Regional Healthcare system facilities in Kentucky and West Virginia are now back online, more than two weeks after a computer virus infected all electronic services.
The Register-Herald of Beckley (http://bit.ly/2cLu1lN ) reports Appalachian Regional said on its website that operations are “returning to normal” this week following the late-August cyberattack.
In a statement, ARH Vice President for Medical Affairs Dr. Maria Braman said officials do not believe the intruder accessed patients’ or employees’ health or financial information.
Federal authorities are investigating the attack.
All ARH computers had been shut down to prevent the virus from spreading. It’s unclear where the virus came from.
