Application to ‘Keep Families Together’ now available for those who qualify

Application aims to keep families together during their process of applying for a green card

(ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Earlier this year, President Joe Biden announced a new executive order that could help expedite the process for some immigrant families looking for residency or citizenship in the U.S.
The purpose of the Keeping Families Together program is just that, to keep families together during that process.
The application officially became available on Monday for those who qualify.

“We want the community to take advantage of this change in policy,” says Claudia Tristán, the immigration campaign director of MomsRising.

A change addressing the saturated immigration system, in hopes of aiding families with their status and, hopefully expediting the process.

“This is a program that will hopefully help 500,000 and spouses,” added Tristán.

There are various qualifications that are necessary in order to apply.
Including, being married to a U.S. Citizen, as of June 17 of this year, been in the United States for at least the past 10 years and no criminal record, just to name a few.

“Typically when you apply for a green card, you have to leave the country during your application review process,” explained Tristán.

But now, “the president removed that requirement for families so they don’t have to leave the country while they apply for a green card and wait for their application to be reviewed,” she said.

An attempt to keep a family together especially for children.
Tristán adds that many who apply have no guarantee they’d be able to come back and get their application approved.

“It’s gonna help so many more families apply for a green card and then have that stability of being able to stay in the country,” also said Tristán.

She also adds that it is important to make sure you are applying in the legitimate government website.

Tristán also advising, “be sure to talk and work with an attorney.”

There is no time frame of when the government will stop taking applications.

Tristan recommends to apply as soon as possible.
