Apartment Fire Displaces Families
At least 20 people are displaced from their homes following an apartment fire in Laurel County.
It happened just before 2:30 Friday morning on Robert E. Cox Road in Corbin.
Firefighters say a man awoke to the smell of smoke and realized there was a fire burning inside his apartment.
He was able to wake all of his neighbors to get them out safely.
While only one apartment caught fire, we’re told residents of the entire building won’t be able to return for a while because of smoke and water damage.
The man who alerted his neighbors did suffer some minor burns.
Others were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.
The Red Cross responded to the scene to help the people who are displaced.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
