Anti-crime effort in Louisville nets more indictments
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Federal prosecutors in Kentucky’s largest city have announced charges against 20 people accused of firearms violations.
U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman says it’s the latest round of federal indictments aimed at reducing violent crime in Louisville.
Prosecutors say these indictments follow two previous rounds of indictments this year as part of an effort called Project Safe Neighborhoods.
They say the latest indictments bring the total number of defendants to 71 this year. Since 2018, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has indicted 181 defendants in Louisville.
Coleman says it reflects a “sense of urgency” among law enforcement agencies to get violent offenders off the streets.
The initiative is a partnership that includes Louisville Metro police, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office and other agencies.
