Another Deadly Shooting in Lexington

Lexington Police said they haven’t made any arrests in Sunday’s deadly shooting and now they don’t have a description of the possible shooter.

Police said a woman was sitting on her front porch Sunday afternoon when she was gunned down along Race Street in Lexington.

She died at UK Hospital according to LPD.

Police said they thought they had a good description of the shooter but after talking with more people in the area and getting conflicting reports of what happened; Monday afternoon they recalled the original description.

They still want anyone with information to call police.

This is the 11th homicide in Lexington so far this year according to Police.

They said only four of those deaths have been solved and arrests made.

Police said this time last year there were nine homicides, in 2012 there were six and in 2011 there were 13.

They said it may seem like there are more this year because the killings have been in such close proximity to each other.

Police said the woman shot and killed Sunday may have been part of illegal and dangerous activity.

Jail records show she was in jail for a minor drug conviction in 2009 and only a few weeks before her deaths she was charged with dealing cocaine and having drug paraphernalia.

Police said people in Lexington should feel safe.

“They shouldn’t have any fear in this city and again this is a small segment of society, a very, very small segment of Lexington that is involved in this type of activity.  This is a safe city,” said Sgt. Pete Ford with the Lexington Police.
