Annual Christmas decorating tradition continues at Lexington’s Ronald McDonald House

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Employees from Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives braved the cold Tuesday to set up Christmas decorations at the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington.

This is an annual tradition for both organizations and they both agree this partnership is something special.

Chelsi McDonald with the Ronald McDonald House says they couldn’t be more grateful for this partnership and all the work the co-ops do.

“The decoration day with Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives comes and decorates our house for the holidays is arguably the best day of our year. Because our guests leave in the morning and they come back to a house that is transformed into a winter wonderland,” said McDonald, the chief philanthropy officer.

For the 21 residents living here, these Christmas decorations help make the holidays feel a little more special.

“Oftentimes, we’ll see our families just coming and sitting in front of the tree and looking at it. And so it’s so special to get to see those little wins when your child is in a hospital and kind of the big wins are fewer and far between,” said McDonald.

Touchstone Energy says the number of volunteers continues to grow every year they participate.

“We’ve got about 30 volunteers here today, which when we first started we maybe had eight people. So each year it’s more and more they want to come back because it just brings so much joy,” said Sha Phillips.
