Animal emergency trailers burglarized

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Fayette Animal Care and Control (LFACC) says three trailers used for emergency situations were burglarized and two generators, valued at over $1,000, were stolen. The thefts were discovered last Saturday, October 3, 2015.

Investigators say three trailers were broken into, the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Plan (CSEPP) trailer which was fully funded by a federal grant, the AKC trailer which was donated by the American Kennel Club, and the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) trailer which is funded by local emergency management funds.

LFACC says it relies heavily on emergency equipment to provide vital services during small or large-scale emergency events. One such example, due to an accident on Tuesday, October 06, 2015, LFACC was left without power risking a $1000 worth of vaccinations and impacting the ability to provide premium care for the animals on base since there was no generator. The generators stolen from the emergency trailers were to ensure the continued care and capabilities of LFACC in the instance that such event occurred.

No suspects have been identified at this time. If anyone has any information, that may lead authorities to the suspects, they are asked to contact Lexington Fayette Animal Care and Control (859-255-9033) or the Lexington Division of Police (859-258-3600).
