Animal complaint lands two people in jail on drug charges

ASHLAND, Ky. (WTVQ) – What began with an animal complaint call ended with two people in jail on drug and other charges, according to Ashland Police.

Just after midnight Monday, officers responded to a report of an animal attacking another on Gallaher Drive.

Police say they met with the homeowner, 36-year old Frank Certain, Jr., of Ashland, who they say was not the person who called police.  Investigators say they discovered Certain had outstanding warrants.

Investigators say when Certain was told he was under arrest, he resisted and assaulted an officer.  After a brief scuffle, Certain was taken into custody, according to police.

Officers say narcotics were in plain view just inside the door.  They got a search warrant and found 2.68 pounds of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $243,000, according to police.

Investigators say they also found a small amount of marijuana, a naloxone tablet and $4,300 in cash, along with scales and baggies.

Police say a woman in the house, 23-year old Rikki Dawn Wurts, of Ashland, had warrants out against her, including from Ohio.  She was arrested on drug trafficking and possession charges, according to police.

Police say more charges are pending as the investigation continues.  Certain and Wurts were taken to the Boyd County Detention Center.
