Angel Tree gifts distributed to nearly 2,400 Lexington families

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Volunteers have been working all week to distribute gifts from the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.

“We’re giving out gifts to 5,000 children about 2,400 families,” said Maj. Asit George.

But George says this couldn’t have happened without the help of the Lexington people.

“What that speaks about is the generosity and the compassion and the kind-heartedness of the Lexiongtonians. We’ve all come through together for the children in our community,” he said.

Salvation Army volunteers have been distributing the gifts from the Angel Tree program all week. From bikes to dolls and even TVs, these Christmas gifts are tailored to each child and their Christmas wish list. You might remember seeing a Christmas tree filled with names in one or multiple of your local stores — those who picked a name were able to provide a child with the gift of their choice.

“Individuals, families, corporate people, they took toys, bought toys, for the different children that they had picked up,” George added.

And when those families come to get their gifts…

“People are absolutely thrilled and aghast, that ‘Oh wow I’m getting so much,'” he said.

The Salvation Army Angel Tree program impacts so many families, and George wants people to know it would not be possible without their volunteers, those who donated and even people who decide to drop some change in a little red bucket.
