Andy Beshear announces transition team

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — In less than a month Kentucky will have a new governor.

Governor-elect Andy Beshear is taking steps toward the office. Friday he announced his transition team after recanvass results the day before officially showed him victorious over Governor Matt Bevin.

“I start, I guess, my first official day as governor-elect with a lot of hope. A lot of hope that we can be better than what we’ve seen in the past, all of us,” says Andy Beshear.

Team Kentucky is what Beshear is calling his transition team. He says Team Kentucky is for Kentucky families.

“We can’t be on this side or that side we have to be on Kentucky’s side every single time,” says the governor-elect.

His team, he calls “experienced and diverse”. It consists of people from all walks of life: state legislators, school board members, pastors, healthcare officials.

“I want this capitol to be a place where people can come from wherever they’re from in k=Kentucky and feel included and feel heard and a lot of the tone and the culture that we’re gonna set for this administration is gonna be started by this transition team,” says Beshear.

He says his team is committed to education, healthcare, economic development and pensions. Beshear says his budget will prioritize those.

“The working men and women of Kentucky the last four years have been under attack. That attack stops today,” says Kyle Henderson, new co-chair of the Labor Cabinet.

Beshear announced his Lieutenant Governor-elect Jacqueline Coleman as co-chair of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

“Our children deserve a top notch education. It’s time that our educators are treated with respect and more appropriately compensated for their dedication to our children,” says Jacqueline Coleman.

The inauguration is set for less than a month away now, December 10th.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do so let’s get started,” says Coleman.
