Andy Barr looks to revitalize coal industry
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Congressman Andy Barr is rolling out a new legislative package aimed at reviving Kentucky’s coal industry and positioning it for long-term growth.
Barr introduced the proposal this week, calling it a bold step toward supporting coal miners, boosting energy independence, and pushing back against what he described as “federal overreach.” The plan is backed by the Kentucky Coal Association.
According to Barr, the package includes five bills that would streamline permitting for coal-related projects, create jobs, and open new markets by encouraging the extraction of rare earth elements from coal waste.
In a statement, Barr said the goal is clear: “get Kentucky miners back to work and keep coal in America’s energy future.”
