Anderson County High School not going forward with bible class
ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Anderson County Schools will not offer a bible elective. The Anderson News reports the high school’s site based council, comprised of parents and teachers, decided Tuesday night to offer a “world religions” course instead.
According to the paper, Principal Chris Class and social studies teacher Corey Sayre both mentioned concerns about legal problems.
The Anderson News reports some students had already signed up for the Old Testament elective, but now, they’ll have the option to drop the class.
Tuesday’s meeting comes after about two years of discussions about a potential Old Testament class. The state legislature approved a bill in 2017 that would allow schools to offer a class on the Bible as a historical text.
