AMC Theater 10 closed, no word on reopening

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – AMC may be one of the world’s largest movie chains, but it can’t withstand everything, especially a dramatic reduction in business due to the coronavirus.

The AMC 10 Theater on Mapleleaf Drive at Man o” War Boulevard in the Hamburg area has been closed for a while and now may be closed for good.

The company’s web site opens with a message that says, “AMC Classic Lexington 10 has closed. We hope to see you at a nearby AMC theater.”

Notes on the door also say it is closed and don’t offer any hint of when or if it might reopen. The company purchased the theater from Carmike in 2017.

Messages and e-mails to AMC corporate spokesperson Ryan Noonan have not been returned.

Lexington city code enforcement has cited the property for failing to pick up trash. Those citations still are outstanding, according to the city.

Cinemark and some other theater chains began opening theaters in the area in August with strict COVID-19 guidelines.
