Amazon to lay off 16,000 employees amid AI restructuring

(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Amazon says it is laying off 16,000 employees as part of an effort to remain nimble and increase decision-making speed around artificial intelligence.

The cuts follow another round of layoffs in October, when the company eliminated 14,000 positions.

Amazon says it will continue to adjust staffing levels as needed, adding that the changes may also include hiring in other strategic areas.

Company officials say the moves are aimed at better aligning teams and resources as Amazon expands its focus on AI-driven technologies.
