Alpacas take center stage at Central Kentucky event

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-  It’s been called the event of the year for Kentucky alpaca owners.

They’re gathering in Central Kentucky this weekend for the Kentucky Classic Alpaca Show. Organizers say it’s a great way to learn about the alpaca industry, talk to breeders and meet more than 200 alpacas which are judged on fleece quality among other things.

"Judging by age and sex and color of their fleece and conformation. This gives the owners a better idea of what caliber animal they have and what they will be able to do with their fleece which is the primary production for these animals," said alpaca association president, Steve Ross.

Alpaca fiber and felt is also on display. Many fashion experts were on hand as well.
