AG’s challenge of Governor’s board adjustments could go before judge soon

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A judge could hear arguments in Attorney General’s challenge to Governor Matt Bevin’s reorganizations of some state boards as early as Thursday afternoon.

Governor Bevin dismantled the board of the Kentucky Retirement Systems and the University of Louisville Board of Trustees last week. He says he as “absolute authority” as governor to disband any of Kentucky’s 400 boards and commissions.

Attorney General Andy Beshear calls this dangerous and says it goes against Kentucky’s Constitution.

Wednesday, Beshear filed a motion to intervene and intervening complaint to join the Kentucky Retirement Systems lawsuit against Governor Bevin.

The complaint is expected to go before a Franklin County Circuit Court judge Thursday afternoon according to Beshear’s office. A spokesperson says Beshear is hoping to argue the case at that time.
