Adult website blocks access to Kentuckians

As a result of House Bill 278 that goes into effect July 15

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The world’s largest pornographic website is now blocked for Kentuckians.
House Bill 278 passed thru state legislature unanimously this year, restricting access to content deemed harmful to minors online.
The official bill goes into effect on July 15th.

“It’s clear that, that we’re we unanimously agree on this issue that we should put measures in place to protect minors,” says Senator Lindsey Tichenor, on passing HB278.
As of Wednesday, one of the biggest adult websites Pornhub, taking access away for Kentuckians.
House Bill 278, requires websites with content deemed harmful to minors to collect documents that prove a user is old enough to be on the website.
“They’ve made that choice and several other states as well and have just pulled out the availability of their content in those states. In my opinion, it just makes it really clear, clearly, their, their intent is for minors to have access to that instead of going, just putting that measure in place in order to protect children from that content. They would prefer just to not,  not be here at all, which which is fine,” added Tichenor.
The purpose of the bill, “just placing and requirements for websites that offer pornography and adult content to put an age verification system in place in order to limit access for minors to be able to access that content, so that just put the requirement in place for those businesses to do that,” said Tichenor.
Senator Tichenor says, the responsibility also lies on the parents, to make sure they too are protecting their children.
“I would encourage parents just to be diligent on, on making sure what their children have access to is appropriate for them. And so much of what we do in the legislature, we can put laws in place, but we can’t be a nanny state, it really is up to the parents to be paying attention and to monitor and making sure their kids have access to safe content that’s age appropriate for them,” she says.
The adult website blocked access to other states too like Indiana, Texas, Utah, Montana, among others.
