Lexington, Ky (WTVQ): Adrielle Camuel won state representative in the 93rd district of Kentucky in a race against Republican Kyle Whalen. Camuel is a mom, and a first-time Democratic candidate. For the last 13 years, she served as an administrative professional at Fayette County Public Schools.
Camuel says that she wants to see politics become less divisive. She has five main goals she wants to accomplish. Starting with making sure women have access to the health care they need, “working on some sort of reproductive rights bill.” She hopes to be a primary co-sponsor for the repeal of SB 150.
Camuel’s second highest priority is education. She wants to make sure education is fully funded, starting with universal preschool.
“Another area I think goes under funded is arts education opportunities” Camuel said. “I think that I need to expand it throughout the state.”
Another big point she wants to address is elder care. She wants to make sure all Kentuckians age with dignity. She says her father currently is struggling with dementia. “We have tried as hard as we can to make sure that he ages in place, that he can stay home,” she said. “It’s difficult to find an assisted living facility that has space.”
Camuel says since we have such a large Baby Boomer population, she wants to make sure there is enough providers and facilities so their needs are met.
Another big point is common sense gun safety measures. She says she’s not looking to take away anyone’s guns. “A high number of accidental gun deaths where we have young children who gain access to an adults loaded weapon,” she said. “We have so many instances where they actually shoot themselves or someone else.”
Her last issues she wants to tackle is protecting worker’s rights. “I would personally like to work on repealing right to work and making Kentucky a prevailing wage state again,” she said.
