Academy responds to backlash, will now allow performances of all nominated songs

Following backlash from a report that it was only planning to allow performances of Lady Gaga’s hit “Shallow” and Kendrick Lamar’s song “All the Stars” on this year’s Oscars telecast, the Motion Picture Academy announced it will go ahead with performances of all five nominated songs, according to Variety.

On Thursday, the Academy tweeted that Jennifer Hudson would perform “I’ll Fight,” the Diane Warren-penned nominated song featured in the documentary “RBG,” and later added that the nominated song “The Place Where Lost Things Go,” from “Mary Poppins Returns,” would be performed by a “special surprise guest.”

In the movie, it’s sung by Emily Blunt.

No word yet on who would sing the fifth best original song nominee, “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings,” from the movie “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.”
