AAA: 4.5 million Kentuckians expected to travel for the holidays

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — AAA is expecting 4.5 million Kentuckians to travel this holiday season. Here’s what you need to know.

Whether you’re filling up your tank to hit the road for the holidays or maybe catching a flight, it’s important what you need to know while you’re traveling for the holidays.

“It’s gonna be a very busy holiday season for travelers,” said Lori Weaver-Hawkins.

Weaver-Hawkins says while the majority of people are hitting the road, airports are also expected to be full.

“I’ve been telling people that because it’s such a busy holiday season, even when weather isn’t a factor, you can still end up with flights being delayed and canceled just by that sheer volume of people flying,” she added.

While that winter weather might impact flights, it can also impact those driving — so an important tip:

“Put that winter emergency kit in your car if you haven’t done so already, so that if you do get stuck in traffic, or you do end up sliding in some snow or end up off the road, or your vehicle does break down, at least you can be safe and you can be comfortable,” Weaver-Hawkins said.

AAA says they expect the busiest travel days to be from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1 with over 335 million travelers nationwide, so if you’re one of them…

“As I always say, pack your patience before you head out,” she said.
