One suspect apologizes after robbing Frankfort boats; Four suspects still at large

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- Surveillance shots of a suspect accused of stealing items from at least three boats at the Frankfort Boat Club, along with three other accomplices, have been lighting up social media. This, after a post shared by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office asked for the public’s help to track them down.

Frankfort resident Brenn Combs who frequently walks his dog in the area says, “There’s plenty of people who know who the guy is and someone’s going to tell ’em.”

Boat Club Member Bill Moore says, “That’s all I’ve seen for the last…ever since it happened. His picture I’ve seen numerous times.”

Moore says the group is like its own little family. He says it was disheartening to see things stolen from his friends.

“I had something stolen off my boat last year, and it wasn’t the fact that they had stolen it. It was the fact that they come on my property and stole my stuff.”

Moore believes being plastered all over social media shamed the suspect to apologize. The next morning all the items, a stash of liquor, a test meter, a toolbox, and a television were delivered to one of the boat owners front door. Taped to the television, an apology note claiming “it was way out of character”

Combs wife Amber Arnett says, “That seems like a lie to me, out of their character. That takes some thought about what you’re going to do and I think it would take some effort because the boat dock is not readily accessible. Seems like he might have…if it’s out of character realized in the middle of it what you were doing and stopped. For me, that wouldn’t be good enough.”

Moore says at least the criminals weren’t all bad. He compared this event to last summer when two boats were let lose, one destroyed. The four suspects used a pontoon boat to help gather up some of the items and bring them back to their own boat. But he says at least they tied the boat back up again when they were finished.

Even though the items are returned the victims will continue to pursue this case in court. Moore says he hopes the suspects learned their lesson.

He says, “It’ll be a deterrent for any future activity like that hopefully down here. Once they find out that it’s not that easy to get away with.”

Security cameras were installed just in the nick of time, only a month ago, to get the suspects’ pictures. Frankfort Police say they do have some leads now, but no names on the suspects yet.
