A family of three and their five dogs escape from fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A family of three and their five dogs are safe after escaping a late-night fire in Lexington.

The Lexington Fire Department says the fire broke out just after 11 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Castleton near Tates Creek Road. Firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage when they arrived.

Officials say five dogs were brought outside and are now safe. A mother, father, and their adult child also made it out of the home without injuries.

Most of the damage was contained to the garage, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire. Crews say the family should be able to stay in their home tonight.
