Bell County man arrested and charged with attempted murder
A Bell County man knowingly fired shots into an occupied home
BELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A Bell County man is charged with multiple counts of attempted murder following a shooting in the Kettle Island community, according to investigators.
Officials arrested 40-year-old James W. Helton of Kettle Island on Monday, while executing an electronic warrant. Police said Helton was located on Mary’s Branch Road and was armed with 9mm and .45-caliber handguns at the time of his arrest.
According to investigators, Helton told officers the shooting occurred just after midnight Saturday, Dec. 13, when he went to a relative’s home where his girlfriend was staying. Police say Helton admitted he became angry and fired shots into a window, knowing someone was inside the residence.
No injuries were reported.
Helton is being held in the Bell County Detention Center and charged with three counts of attempted murder. The case remains under investigation.
