Pursuit leads to stolen SUV recovery

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a high-speed pursuit ended with three arrests, the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the disabling of a police cruiser in Rockcastle County. Investigators say it all began around 3:00 p.m. Friday when a KSP Vehicle Enforcement officer tried to stop a 1996 Ford Explorer for driving carelessly on US 150 in Mount Vernon.

Investigators say the driver of the SUV took off at a high rate of speed, leading the officer on a chase down several city streets in Mount Vernon, eventually to US 461, to Old Brodhead Road and finally coming to an end on Purr Rigsby Road in a corn field where the officer’s cruiser became disabled.

The stolen SUV was found a short distance down the road and witnesses reported the people who were in the vehicle were near Chestnut Grove Road, according to KSP.

A short time later, the officer found 47-year old Mitchell D. Clontz, of Brodhead, hiding in a home he had broken-in to, according to State Police. He was arrested and charged with numerous offenses.

Also arrested was 28-year old Mitchell Clontz, Junior, of Brodhead, who investigators say had an outstanding indictment warrant out against him. He was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and other offenses, according to State Police.

The third person from the vehicle who was arrested was Alicia Wilson, of Berea, on outstanding bench warrants, according to investigators.
