UPDATE: Grand jury indicts Scott County cemetery owner

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A grand jury has decided that a Scott County cemetery owner should be tried on a theft charge.

The Lexington Herald-Leader says 57-year-old Dale Shackelford of  Georgetown was indicted on one count of theft by deception. He’s accused of stealing $15,300 from six Crestlawn Cemetery customers.

Prosecutors say he took the money for headstones and grave markers that were never delivered to grieving families.

The newspaper says the charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison upon conviction.

As we reported last month, a state judge ordered Shackelford to either install the items…or give full refunds to customers.
