About 50 evacuated after small fire on Corporate Drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Office workers are back at their desks after being evacuated from their building Tuesday afternoon.

A fire alarm at a building on Corporate Drive triggered the Lexington Fire Department at about 3:15 p.m.  Firefighters say they smelled smoke as soon as they arrived, prompting them to evacuate about 50 people.

Firefighters say they saw fire coming from the elevator equipment room, but were able to knock it down quickly.

Investigators suspect a mechanical failure with an electric motor that operates the hydraulic elevator.
