Wolfe Co. Search & Rescue evac family, dog from Auxier Ridge

WOLFE CO., Ky. (WTVQ) – Wolfe Co. Search & Rescue were called out Sunday night at about 10:00 p.m. to help a family and their dog.

Responders say the dog was suffering a medical episode while the hikers were on Auxier Ridge, and that the father had left the hiking group earlier to go get help.  When rescuers arrived at the trail head, they found the father at his car.  According to Walfe Co. Search & Rescue, the man told them that his family was still somewhere on Auxier Ridge, and he had been unable to contact them because the battery on his phone was dead.

A team headed out to Court House Rock, where the father said he had left them, but were unable to immediately find them.  Eventually, however, they discovered them just above the steps heading up to the forest service road on Double Arch Trail.  Rescuers say a separate group of hikers had found the family and the dog, and improvised a tarp to help carry the dog off the ridge.

Wolfe Co. Search & Rescue took over the evacuation of the family and the dog, and made it to the forest service road where they were picked up by rescue vehicle.

No word on the condition of the dog.
