UPDATE: Laurel Co. man found guilty in 2015 murder

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Laurel Co. man has been found guilty in the July 2015 shooting death of his girlfriend.

Christopher Byrd’s trial started on Monday.  Byrd was accused of shooting 29-year-old Shannon Engle at a home on Hickory Road in London.  Investigators say Byrd admitted to the shooting.

After deliberation, a jury came back with a guilty verdict for reckless homicide, and recommended a year in jail.

The judge has released Byrd, who has already served 402 days in jail.

A final sentencing will be held on August 19.

A Laurel County man is charged with murder after deputies say he shot his girlfriend.The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says Christopher Byrd, 29, shot Shannon Engle, 22, at a home on Hickory Road in London. When deputies arrived on scene, they say she was found dead on the floor with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators say the two had been in a domestic dispute, and say Byrd admits to shooting Engle. Byrd is charged with murder.
