Woman charged with murder after fatal collision in Whitley Co.
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say a Williamsburg woman has been arrested and charged with murder after a collision on KY HWY 895 that killed one woman and sent a man to the hospital.
Troopers say it happened Monday just before 6:30 p.m. in the Canadatown community of Whitley Co.
Officers say 46-year-old Sonia Askins was traveling southbound on 895 when she crossed the center line and hit two pedestrians, 37-year-old Joshua Bennett, and 40-year-old Teresa L. Ward.
Ward was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley Co. Coroner.
Bennett was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Corbin, where he was treated and released.
Askins was arrested and charged with reckless driving, DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, murder, assault, and other charges.
She was taken to the Whitley Co. Detention Center.
