Franklin Co. man dies after gun accidentally discharges

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Franklin Co. Sheriff says a man has died when his gun went off and hit him in the chest.

The Sheriff says deputies went to the 300 black of Pea Ridge Road on Sunday at about 8:30 p.m.  When they got there, they say they found a man dead with a gunshot wound.

Investigators say the man was showing off a gun he had recently purchased, and didn’t think it was loaded.

Deputies say alcohol was a factor in the death.

The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
