CDC: Signs of heat-related illnesses everyone should know

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Increasingly hotter temperatures this week could pose some health risks to those who have to be outside.

Two of the most common heat-related illnesses are heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Doctors say there are a number of signs you might be suffering from exhaustion — like fatigue, nausea, headache and weakness. You might also feel dizzy or confused.

When it comes to heat stroke — a lot of the signs are similar, according to doctors, but it can also happen without any symptoms leaving you in need of medical attention immediately.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offer up some treatment options if you think you’re suffering from heat exhaustion or stroke like moving to a cooler location, lying down, sipping water and seeking medical attention.

The CDC says if you think you’ve had a heat stroke — call 9-1-1 and don’t drink fluids.

If it can be avoided — limit your time outdoors until temperatures cool down.
