The Somerset Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam making the rounds in the community.
According to police, people are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with the American Police Academy, soliciting money to help the families of fallen police officers.
Somerset Police say they are not familiar with any kind of organization with that name.
They are cautioning anyone who receives such a call to vet the information thoroughly, and if in doubt – hang up.
Officers are recommending that anyone who is in a giving mood to pro-actively find a charitable organization, and not wait for them to call you.
