One dead after fire in Harlan Co.

BLAIR, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fire in Harlan Co. that took the life of one man.

Troopers say they were called to a home on Old US Highway 119 early Friday morning, after a 911 call reported that the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Officers with the Cumberland City Police Department were first on the scene, and confirmed with neighbors that a man living there was still inside.

Fire departments from Benham, Cumberland, and Putney found the remains inside the home.

No word on what started the fire, but investigators say they do not suspect foul play.

The identity of the victim has not been confirmed.  The body is being sent to the Medical Examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
