Casey Co. assault victim dies at UK Medical Center

EDMONTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The victim of an assault back on June 25 has died, according to the Fayette Co. Coroner.

The coroner says 65-year-old Mark Ponder died just before midnight on Sunday.

Ponder was involved in a fight at Breedon Withers Grocery in Casey Co. at about 11:00 p.m. on the 25th, according to Kentucky State Police.  Police say 37-year-old Larry J. Buis, of Liberty, was arrested and charged with assault in the case.

According to Troopers, both men left the scene after the fight was finished, but Ponder later called EMS, and was taken to the Casey Co. Hospital.  He was then airlifted to UK Medical Center.

The coroner says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Frankfort at the Medical Examiner’s Office.  The coroner’s report does not include a cause or manner of death.

No word from Kentucky State Police if Buis will face any additional charges.
